Resource Owner Guide
Note About Employment Opportunities:
One of the purposes of the success.rutgers.edu site is to help students identify resources that support their career development—not to serve as a job or internship posting board. This is the function of Rutgers Handshake. Therefore, we encourage you to begin posting your internship/employment opportunities directly on Rutgers Handshake. Individual jobs and internships, or independent posting boards, will not be approved as resources on the success.rutgers.edu website.

New Resource Review
All new resources will be reviewed by website administrators before publishing. If changes are required or a resource has been declined, the resource owner will receive an email notification with more details. Once the resource has been approved, it will be published and available on the website for users.
After approval, resource owners may continue to update their resources as needed.
Six Month Review
Resources must be reviewed at least once every six months. If a resource has not been updated within six months, resource owners will receive an email notification to review the content, verify links, and make any necessary updates.
After receiving the email notification, resource owners have 30 days to review the resource. If the resource has not been updated by the end of the review period, the resource will be unpublished from the website.
Note: Resource owners must open and save the resource, even if no changes are needed.
Resource owners can update a resource at any time. The six month timer resets when the resource is saved.
Content Management and Editing
What information should I include in the description?
Descriptions are limited to 1,700 characters, including punctuation, spaces, hyperlinks, and formatting. Descriptions should include pertinent details, while avoiding dates or other information that can quickly become outdated.
How do I categorize my resource?

- Class Level
- School
- Delivery Format
Resources should have at most three categories and five matching resource types.
Is there a way to preview my content before publishing it?

Can multiple people collaborate on the same resource?
Only one NetID at a time can be assigned to a resource.
Can I reassign a resource to a different owner?

Updating and Maintenance
How often should I update my resources?
Resources can be updated as frequently as needed. They must be reviewed and updated at least once every six months.
Will I be notified if a resource becomes outdated or inactive?
Resource owners will receive an email notification to review the resource and verify information if a resource has not been updated within six months. After receiving the email notification, resource owners will have 30 days to make updates. If there have been no updates by the end of the review period, the resource will be unpublished from the website.
How do I remove or temporarily hide a resource?
To remove a resource from the live website, change the status of the page to "Archived." This will unpublish the page and retain the historic information for the resource, with the option to republish in the future.
Best Practices and Guidelines
Are there content guidelines or formatting standards I should follow?
Content for the Resources for Student Success website should follow the Rutgers Editorial Style Guide. These guidelines have been developed as a tool and resource for crafting consistent, clear, and accurate communications.
What types of resources are most helpful to students?
Acceptable resources for this website include specific offices, offerings, and programs that pertain to the success of Rutgers–New Brunswick students.
How do I ensure my content is accessible and inclusive?
Start by designing with everyone in mind. Use clear language and make sure your content works with screen readers and keyboard navigation. Use inclusive language like gender-neutral terms, culturally respectful phrasing, and words that affirm all identities and backgrounds. Avoid jargon, spell out acronyms, and always consider how your content reflects the Rutgers community.
